Welcome!

My Photo
I'm a truth-seeker. Depending on what sort of mood I'm in, I might also tell you I'm a writer, consultant, doula, herbalist, educator, or activist. Fact is I'm trying my best to juggle all of these "me(s)" with strength and humor, grace and dignity. This is where you can grab a front row seat, watch me drop balls, and curse.

About Me

Howdy!
Welcome to LeapingGreenly.com! Thanks for stopping by.

My name is Ang. I’m a writer, doula, and an herbalist‐in‐training. I'm part of a Mennonite intentional community on a small farm in rural Illinois, where I live with my husband, two basenjis, two cats, five goats,  30+, 20, 15, 12, 34, 16, 4 chickens, and lots of dear friends.

I’m addicted to education – both formal and informal – on topics from nutrition and herbal remedies, to theology and gender studies, from community development and social work, to fiber crafts like weaving, crochet, and knitting. If I had my way (and unlimited resources) I'd have about 15 different masters degrees.

My passions are encouraging others through the written word, reconciliation, and natural wellness.

You can find poetry, prose, personal essays and other ramblings on this very website. My work has been featured in Offerings,  catapult* magazine, The Englewood Review of Books, and Culture Is Not Optional's Road Journal. I'm co-founder and current Chairwoman of The Nourish Collective, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering women and promoting health and education. My doula and herbalist practice is just getting started! Check back soon under "True Leaves" or "Nourish Doula Services" for more information.

And, yes, I have a "real" job. A great one. I work for a company that helps reduce the risk that a child or vulnerable adult will be sexually abused. I'm also currently in training with Freedom House to be a  volunteer medical or legal advocate for women who are victims of sexual abuse or domestic violence.

Where did the title "Leaping Greenly" come from?
My favorite poem!

i thank You God for this most amazing
day:for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky;and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes

(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun's birthday;this is the birth
day of life and love and wings:and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any-lifted from the no
of all nothing-human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?

(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

~ e. e. cummings

What's Leaping Greenly all about?
I've been blogging for years. Nine to be exact. And as I've branched out into other areas of interest, I've wanted to include more and more of what I'm learning and what my aspirations are and what I do in my daily life in my blogs. Yet it all doesn't really fit nice and neat under a good old "writing" blog. So I decided to pull it all together into one online empire. *Grin*

My hope for Leaping Greenly is that by sharing my writing, doubts, hopes, misgivings, and all the random (and yes, hippie) stuff I learn that I will continue to grow into the woman my Creator made me to be, and that I will inspire other women to live full, imaginative, empoweredgood lives.

Lives of wholeness and healing

Lives that are congruent with their values

Lives that are leaping greenly.
